In support of the #MillionMaskChallenge, a group of makers in Charlotte got together with students and teachers at Charlotte Latin School and UNCC to form Charlotte MEDI [Medical Emergency Device Innovation] with the hope of producing face shields for healthcare workers in the Charlotte community. We started with a design made by Prusa, and after a few days of minor modifications, were able to prototype the first few dozen and get them in the hands (or rather, on the faces) of nurses and doctors at local hospitals.
Within 10 days of forming, we set our goal to deliver 15,000 shields per week using our community network of 3D printers and local manufacturing companies. Because of the amazing efforts of our community and partners, we are now able to produce shields much faster than expected. We have now set our goal to deliver 100,000 shields. We are also focusing on sewing cloth masks to help the general public protect themselves.
And we are only getting started. No telling what next week will bring. This is a grassroots effort and we need your help!
